taking the collective in a different direction, kilowatts, who also appears on diffusion records (alpha conspiracy), provides some beat driven tracks for your pleasure. this release is aimed at being fun and enjoyable, hence the curiously named track names. as kilowatts says 'this release contains 4 pasta-inspired breaks tracks, drenched with marinara, and covered in mozzarella cheese.' along with the beats goes a subtle idm melodical and sentimental edge - a refreshing change from the usual. welcome kilowatts.

This is some wonderfully layered music. GREAT stutters and stops, sample pitch sliding, grinds, stereo delay and reverb used sparingly and at seemingly the right moments! Almost Jazz like melodies [If only they were slightly more complex, no biggie.]

I dig the buildups and the extra measure transitions here and there, the seem to be very well thought out. There are some verrry wobbly beats thrown in the mix along with 'escaping air sounds' and cool combos like 'stereo panned tapered delay grinds'.

Intelligent AND danceable beat/break sequencing. Fettucini Funk ..yea aye yeay yayy yiy yiayy ay yeaay yay hahaha :-D

Fun. If I only had one word to describe this EP, that would have to be it: this EP is, if nothing else, a lot of fun. And I don't mean shiny-happy (makes-you-want-to-vomit) "nice"... this EP can be downright rude at times, making use of some nimble basslines with fast-flicked filtering. This is dark fun, Sith Lord fun. The first track shines with demented dexterity, and is sure to catch your attention and hold it for repeated listenings (I've been playing this EP regularly since its release, and it's presently May 19, 2006). Track two is a little more subtle, but just as easy to appreciate in the long-run. Gentle whole-note leads with gritty filtering to keep them interesting, echoed by simple bells to create a theme. Track three... takes some getting used to. I thought it was dumb on first listens, but the other tracks were so strong that I didn't immediately kill it, and I'm glad I didn't, because its quirky themes slowly became a highlight of the EP. Resist the urge to skip this track; you will find yourself humming the tune to yourself in eager anticipation of playing the EP again. And while the EPiano that forms the "lead" of the piece isn't exactly showing off any chops, it's enjoyable and sits well with the mix. The final track is another obvious strong point: a clicky down-sampled nod to IDM with a brilliant, elegant lead, complex percussive meanderings, and a hungry beast of a bass that rears up in just the right places to add "ooomph".

The four tracks work very well as a unit: the mood, style, heavy use of comb filtering (which abounds on this entire album), simple leads, and persistent tempo... this is a cohesive unit, best played in order and all together. However, each track certainly has the fortitude to stand on its own, and I'm sure the individual tracks will make their way onto plenty of 'net mixes.

Really, this is one of Kahvi's (relatively numerous) must-haves. It's certainly a personal favourite, and one that I am quick to recommend to others.
